Carrie Mae Weems designs new billboard ad for Vice President Kamala Harris

The use of art to appeal to voters is a tactic that political parties have used for decades. The renowned artist Carrie Mae Weems isn’t new to this concept either. She partnered with the organization For the People in 2020, before the presidential election. Weems spearheaded the project that prioritized tapping various artists to design billboards in key swing states to encourage voters to participate in the electoral process.

Recently, the artist debuted a new billboard for the Harris for President Campaign. The Vice President is captured in black and white speaking and the copy across the image states “Leading with Compassion. Not Complaint” (see image below)

It is unclear where the billboard is located or if it will be located in various cities across the United States. However, by working with one of the most notable black artists, the message the Harris Team is sending is loud and clear. As a campaign, they will utilize the unique role art plays in shaping movements, protests, and politics as a whole.
